Master of Education
Available in Illinois, Wisconsin, Florida

The Interdisciplinary Studies in Curriculum & Instruction M.Ed program is especially designed for highly motivated, experienced K-12 teachers who seek professional growth as classroom practitioners.  It is a cohort model centered on classroom action research.  Students study their own practice, select much of their own reading, and examine their values and life histories in relation to their work.

This active, interactive program is field-based. "Field based" means that the program comes to you, rather than your having to travel to a campus that might be at some distance.  This may occur through weekly 4-hour meetings in a neighborhood school; in a blended format with fewer face-to-face meetings and some work online; or in a fully online format.

The IDS program offers an integrated curriculum and authentic assessment.  Its flexible and innovative course of study features four main interwoven strands: curriculum and instruction, action research, foundations, and human development.

Field-based classes in the M.Ed program are formed within a designated geographical area whenever approximately 15 students have formally applied for admission and met requirements.  Once enrolled in a cohort, students are guaranteed that all courses will meet and that the program can be completed on schedule within approximately 22 months.

Master of Education
and
National Board Certification Program
Available in Chicago

The M.Ed/NBC program offers candidates the unique opportunity to earn a master's degree and receive mentoring to fulfill required preparation for the National Board Certification portfolios and content tests.

The curriculum of the M.Ed program in Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) in Curriculum and Instruction is woven around four central themes: Curriculum and Instruction, Human Growth and Development,  Educational Research, and Foundations of Education.  It provides a rich context to complement the five core principles of National Board Certification: commitment to students, content knowledge, student learning, reflection, and learning communities. Blended into one model, the M.Ed/IDS/NBC is a powerful vehicle for teachers to truly become leaders in their field.
